Nightcap time

Time to relax, mix up a cold beverage and kick up your feet.

Tonight, let's make something to get us through these hot, hot Phoenix nights. It takes a little prep so you might want to triple or quadruple this recipe if you're thinking of having more than one (as I am) or sharing with friends.

My Perfect Mint Julep

INGREDIENTS
2oz. of GOOD whiskey (Jameson is my preferred poison)
1/4oz. sugar syrup
Dash of water
6 - 10 mint leaves
1/4oz. red vermouth (i.e. Lillet Rouge)
Fresh raspberries

Bruise 6-8 mint sprigs in a highball glass or Julep cup (if you're well-heeled enough to have one) along with the water and sugar syrup. Add whiskey and stir. Add crushed ice and stir again. Gently float the red vermouth on top; gently smack the remaining mint sprigs then add along with 2-4 raspberries for garnish.

Now, tip your glass to Kentucky boys My Morning Jacket and sip while you enjoy...
